Seventh annual No Room at the Inn in need of nativities
The seventh annual No Room at the Inn nativity display event, benefitting Catholic Charities St. Anthony Family Shelter, is in need of nativities and nativity items.
There is no charge to exhibit. Those who wish to do so may arrive between 6 and 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 to set up the display.
The community display will feature over 600 nativities from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in the St. Mary School Commons, 2300 E. Meadowlark.
There is no charge to attend but a free-will offering to benefit the shelter is encouraged.

Biographies of Fr. John Reinkemeyer again available
More copies of the book about Fr. John Reinkemeyer by Marcel Normand, a member of St. Joseph Parish, Arma, are available.
The first printing of 1,400 books sold out this summer, Normand said.
Copies of the second printing of his 2009 biography, “Fr. John Reinkemeyer: God’s Humble Servant,” are available via mail or may be picked up in the Wichita area.

Dominicans bazaar Saturday, Nov. 12
The Dominican Sisters of Peace in Great Bend will host their Annual Mission Benefit Bazaar from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at 3600 Broadway in Great Bend.
Hundreds of handcrafted and homemade items and unique gift theme baskets will be available, and their famous raffle will be held along with a silent auction.

Diocese hosting talk about mental illness support Nov. 29
The diocesan Ministry with Persons with Disabilities will host “Welcomed and Valued: Supporting People with Mental Illness in Parish Life,” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Bishop’s Hall at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Wichita.
A counselor from Catholic Charities Community Counseling Service and a representative from National Alliance on Mental Illness will speak.
Members of Respect Life and Social Justice committees, parish nurses, or anyone interested in this issue are encouraged to attend.

Repeal of death penalty rally Nov. 5
The Kansas Coalition Against the Death Penalty and the WSU School of Community Affairs are sponsoring a “Rally for Repeal” of the death penalty from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Wichita State University Metroplex, 5015 E. 29th St. N.
Featured speakers for the rally are Jeremy Schroeder, executive director Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, who led the successful effort this year to repeal the Illinois death penalty, and Diann Rust-Tierney, executive director of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.
The rally will also include short workshops on some of the biggest issues concerning the death penalty, such as public safety, the risk of executing an innocent person, as well as provide opportunity to talk with other advocates from across the state to get up to speed on the death penalty before the Kansas legislative session starts in January.

Drivers needed for Annual Christmas Dinner for the Blind
Volunteers are needed to provide two-way transportation for a person or persons who are blind or visually impaired to attend the Annual Christmas Dinner for the Blind on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
The dinner will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Schulte. Drivers from all major quadrants of the city are needed.

Sisters of St. Joseph Dear Neighbor Ministries have several volunteer positions open.
Volunteers are need to:

• StepStone Support Group Assistant to coordinate children’s activities twice a month while their mothers attend a support group meeting.
• Handyperson to do repair and odd jobs and projects at office one day a week.

Emerald Ball Nov. 12
Via Christi’s Emerald Ball, an evening to benefit Gerard House, will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Wichita Marriott Corporate Hills, 9100 Corporate Hills Drive.

‘Footprints of God’ DVD series to be shown at Reflection Ridge starting Nov. 16
An eight part DVD series “Footprints of God,” narrated and filmed by Catholic apologist Steven Ray, will be shown at 7 p.m. from Nov. 16 to Feb. 29 at Reflection Ridge Retirement Community, 2300 N. Tyler Road, Wichita.
The series gives “a heavenly perspective on the holiest sites of Christendom” and will include aerial views of the Holy Land that will be projected on a 25-foot movie screen.

Raffle tickets being sold to help Discalced Carmelite Monastery
A raffle is being held to raise money for the nuns of the Discalced Carmelite Monastery.
The nuns hope to buy pre-cast concrete wall sections for their permanent enclosure wall to comply with what Rome requires for the monastery, located north of the Spiritual Life Center.
Some of the prizes include a hand embroidered and hand quilted Praying Hands Quilt, a $250 Dillons gift card, a two-night retreat for two at the Spiritual Life Center, a weekend night stay at the Hilton-Airport with breakfast, and gold-filled ladies rosary with cloisonne beads.
All Catholic book stores in the diocese are offering the raffle tickets and Bishop Carroll Catholic High School will have the tickets available in the front office through the end of December.
The drawings will be held in late December. The suggested donation for the raffle tickets is 1 for $1, 7 for $5, and 15 for $10.
Donations accepted but no donation or purchase necessary. Winner is subject to all applicable local, state, and federal taxes.

Knapp attends Pope Paul VI Institute training in Omaha
Becky Knapp represented the Diocese of Wichita’s Office of Family Life and Natural Family Planning, last month at the Pope Paul VI Institute annual training in Omaha, Neb.
About 80 women’s health practitioners from the U.S., Poland, Mexico, Nigeria, Ireland, New Zealand, and Canada attended.
The institute is a leading education and research center in the United States in the area of natural regulation of human fertility and the development of morally acceptable reproductive health services.

‘Newman Surprise’ for students of all ages set for Nov. 15
WICHITA – Newman University officials are hosting “The Newman Surprise,” an open house for prospective students, from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15. It will be held in the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center inside the Dugan Library and Campus Center on Newman’s campus.
Representatives from various academic programs, student activities, financial aid and other departments will be available to visit with high school students, returning adults, veterans and laid-off workers. Information about attending Newman will also be available.
During the open house, a financial aid workshop will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Tarcisia Roths Alumni Lounge on the second floor of the Dugan Library building. This will provide valuable information for students of all ages as well.
“We invite everyone to come out to the Newman Surprise Open House,” said Allison Woods, Newman admissions recruiter and event coordinator.
“We find so often that people we visit with are truly surprised at the programs and quality education we offer at Newman, the caliber of the student activities, and our surprisingly affordable cost. We plan to have several surprises throughout the afternoon.”

Holy Spirit Prayer and Healing Group hosting conference Nov. 12 at All Saint’s gymnasium
WICHITA – The Holy Spirit Prayer & Healing Group will host a retreat and conference from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, in the All Saints gym, 3205 E. Grand, Wichita.
Father John Lanzrath, chancellor of the Diocese of Wichita, will speak and celebrate Mass. Fr. Pat Malone, Sister of St. Joseph Joann Schneider and Community of the Holy Spirit Sister Agatha Faimon will also speak.
Admission is free. Breakfast and lunch will be provided at no charge. The registration deadline is Nov. 9.
