Raffle tickets being sold to help Discalced Carmelite monastery
A raffle is being held to raise money for the nuns of the Discalced Carmelite Monastery.
The nuns hope to buy pre-cast concrete wall sections for their permanent enclosure wall to comply with what Rome requires for the monastery, located north of the Spiritual Life Center.
Some of the prizes include a hand embroidered and hand quilted Praying Hands Quilt, a $250 Dillons gift card, a two-night retreat for two at the Spiritual Life Center, a weekend night stay at the Hilton-Airport with breakfast, and gold-filled ladies rosary with cloisonne beads.
The drawings will be held in late December. The suggested donation for the raffle tickets is 1 for $1, 7 for $5, and 15 for $10. Donations accepted but no donation or purchase necessary. Winner is subject to all applicable local, state, and federal taxes.

Silver Rose to stop at seven parishes in diocese
Kansas Knights of Columbus will again pay tribute to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, by participating in the Silver Rose Relay Program.
Various councils will carry a Silver Rose from Ontario through the United States to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico, by Dec. 12, the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The rose will journey through Kansas between Sept. 25 and Oct. 16, stopping first in Syracuse and last in Wathena, before it is taken to Missouri. At each stop, a special prayer service or Mass honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe will be celebrated.

Newman Book Club celebrates 90th anniversary Sept. 26
WICHITA – The Catholic Women’s Book Club, known as the Newman Book Club, will mark its 90th anniversary at its Sept. 26 meeting.
The meeting, open to any interested Catholic woman, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at St. Anthony’s Hall, 300 N. Ohio. The luncheon cost is $7.50.
Diane Osborne will present the program.
