Catholic Charities USA is celebrating 100 years of serving those in need throughout the United States. As part of the celebration, Catholic Charities of Wichita is inviting the community to take part in a special centennial Mass at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
Cynthia N. Colbert, Catholic Charities executive director, said the Wichita office is one of 171 Catholic Charities main organizations, which include 1,668 branches and affiliates, across the country.
“Although we serve different communities in different ways, we are all joined in our Catholic teaching and ministry of service to the poor and vulnerable,” she said. “We are called to be Christ’s living witness in the world and we are privileged to serve our brothers and sisters in need.”
Bishop Michael O. Jackels will celebrate the Mass. Father Aaron Spexarth is the master of ceremonies. The Knights of Columbus Honor Guard will take part in the procession.
A reception, catered by the Lord’s Diner, will follow at 6 p.m. in the Cathedral’s Pius X Room with a presentation by Colbert and special Centennial giveaways. Tours of the Help Center will also be available following the presentations.
