Cardinal Oscar Rodríguez Maradiaga, archbishop of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, will be in Wichita for an evangelization rally at Hartman Arena in Wichita July 12-13. The event, which will be in Spanish, will open with a Mass at 10 a.m., with Cardinal Maradiaga and Bishop Carl A. Kemme concelebrating.
Cardinal Maradiaga, who is fluent in English and several other languages, will participate in a bilingual youth retreat from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 11, at St. Jude Parish in Wichita. The cost for the retreat is $10.
He will celebrate a Mass in English at 4 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 2351 N Market in Wichita.

In 2005, Cardinal Maradiaga was mentioned as a possible successor to Pope Benedict XVI. He is the first cardinal from Honduras. On April 13, 2013 he was appointed to coordinate a group of cardinals established by Pope Francis to advise him and to study a plan for revising the Apostolic Constitution on the Roman Curia.
