2016 St. Philippine Duchesne Award
Outstanding Young High School Teacher
Ryan Biedron of Bishop Carroll Catholic High School is the 2016 recipient of the St. Philippine Duchesne Outstanding Young Teacher Award.
Biedron, a Carroll alumnus, teaches Algebra, Advanced Geometry, and Introduction to Engineering and was instrumental in establishing the pre-engineering program at Bishop Carroll. His classes involve hands-on and project-based activities that use 3D modeling software to design solutions and communicate results. He connects his material to real-world examples. He is available before, during, and after school to help students understand the material. He ties all instruction to the Kansas College and Career – ready Standards.
Mr. Biedron models parish stewardship for his students. He is an active Eucharistic minister and lector at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Wichita. Even though he teachers mathematics, he integrates faith daily into instruction using such props as a giant geometric rosary and a triangle to illustrate the Trinity. He also volunteers time to sell tickets, supervise activities, coach two different sports, and sponsor the freshmen class. He is a gift to Bishop Carroll and the Diocese of Wichita.
