Holthusens release CD of Catholic songs

Sarah and Josh Holthusen’s CD, “Lead the Way,” has several familiar songs such as “Come to the Water,” “Blest Are They,” and “I Am the Bread of Life,” along with some original compositions such as the CD’s namesake, “Lead the Way.”

Sarah and Josh will perform at annual Night of Romance Feb. 13 at Resurrection Parish
Sarah and Josh Holthusen, members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Wichita, have released a CD of Catholic music – just in time for Lent.
“Lead the Way” is the result of work that began last year during Lent when the family gave up television, Josh said. He and Sara began recording some music that people has asked them about over the years.
“We tried to do songs people know, songs they sing in church, and mixed in some we wrote on our own,” he said from his home near SEAS in west Wichita.
He and Sarah recorded the music in a home studio - after they put their four noisy boys to bed.
The music is primarily Sarah singing and harmonizing with acoustic guitar accompaniment by Josh.
“We wanted to keep it simple,” Josh said. “It’s the music people hear when we perform at different places.”
Sarah, from Kingman, and Josh, from Atchison, met on their first day at Benedictine College and were married three years later. They met on the first day of college and their relationship blossomed after Josh heard Sarah wanted to take guitar lessons. After Josh got to know her he asked her to be his sponsor when he decided to become Catholic.
“We started hanging out,” he said, “she seemed like a good, solid Catholic.”
So solid that he asked her to marry him. They were wed at the beginning of their senior year at Benedictine. After graduating they moved to Nashville where they pursued their musical dreams for nearly seven years.
After their second child was born, the Holthusens decided to move back to Kansas so their children could grow up knowing their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. They have four boys.
They will be singing at “Igniting our Hearts: A Night of Romance,” which will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Church of the Resurrection, 4910 N. Woodlawn.
A Night of Romance is sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Wichita Office of Family Life & Natural Family Planning.
Frank LaForge urged the faithful to attend the Night of Romance to hear the Holthusens.
“We parishioners at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish have the distinct pleasure of hearing them bring us the liturgy of music at Sunday mass once a month,” LaForge said.
“Sarah’s voice is one of the finest I have ever heard, and the guitar playing of Josh is equally as good as anyone in the country. They are indeed as professional as anyone could expect. If you miss them, you will only hear about what you missed from everyone who attends.
