KFL Valentine banquet Feb. 12
WICHITA – The annual Kansans for Life Valentine banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, in the banquet hall in the Dugan Library & Campus Center at Newman University. Seating begins at 5:30.
Lila Rose, a UCLA student who has been taping undercover video at Planned Parenthood offices, is the featured speaker. She has been a recent guest on many cable news magazine programs. Jamie Thietten, a Christian recording artist will also perform at the event.

Workshop on faith and science Feb. 6 at the WSU Newman Center
WICHITA – The St. Paul Parish/Newman Center is sponsoring a workshop “Catholicism and Modern Science: A Rediscovered Heritage,” on Saturday, Feb. 6. It begins at 9 a.m. and will end around 3 p.m.
Chris Baglow, Ph.D., will lead the workshop. Baglow teaches at Notre Dame Seminary as professor of theology and director of the Master of Arts Program in Theological Studies for lay students.
The cost is free to students and $10 for all others. Lunch will be served.
Four sessions will be offered that day. Here are two topics:
• Belief Under Assault: Scientific Atheism and the Assault on Reason and Faith
• The ‘Big Bang’ About Creation: Is Sacred Scripture Anti-Science?

Sr. Helen Prejean to speak at Magnificat Center in March
WICHITA – Sister Helen Prejean and Margot Van Sluytman will speak at the Magnificat Center, 3700 E. Lincoln, during a workshop, “Dialogue of Hope: Incredible Stories,” from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 5, and from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. the next day.
They will share their personal stories revealing God’s grace of reconciliation and forgiveness. Sister Helen, a member of the Congregation of St. Joseph, is the author of Dead Man Walking and will share how her correspondence with a death row inmate changed the direction of her life and led her to become known internationally for her tireless work against the death penalty. 
Margot Van Sluytman, an award winning expressive writing teacher and poet from Canada, will recount her experience of how an e-mail message led to a deep and enriching dialogue with the man she knew only as her father’s killer.

Adorers to host prayer vigil for immigration reform on Jan. 19
WICHITA – The Sisters Adorers of the Blood of Christ will host a prayer vigil for comprehensive immigration reform from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at the convent chapel, 1165 Southwest Blvd.
The sisters invite those interested to “come and unite as a faith community to pray for justice and safety for the immigrant families among us.”

Colwich Knights hosting dinner Saturday to help seminarians
Colwich Knights of Columbus are hosting a Mexican Buffet Dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, in the parish’s Religious Education Center.
On the menu will be tacos, burritos, taco salad, chicken or beef enchiladas, Spanish rice and refried beans. Carry-out will be available.
The cost is a free-will donation. All proceeds will be used to support our diocesan seminarians.

Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion Workshops scheduled at four parish sites
Four workshops for extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion are scheduled in the Wichita area in the next four months. Here are the dates and sites:
• Saturday, Jan. 9, 10 to 11:30 a.m., St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Wichita
• Tuesday, Feb. 9, 7 to 8:30 p.m., St. Peter Church, Schulte
• Saturday, March 6, 10 to 11:30 a.m., St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Wichita
• Thursday, April 22, 7 to 8:30 p.m., St. Mary’s Cathedral (Pius X/Marian Rooms), Wichita

Sarah’s Hope Books for Life March 6
Books for Life 2010, the annual fundraiser for Sarah’s Hope Foundation, will be held from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 3202 W. 13th St.
Books for Life is now accepting donations of books, videos, DVDs, CDs, and games for the book sale. Donations may be dropped of at the foundation from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in suite 6 at 3202 W. 13th.
Volunteers are needed before, during, and after the sale. To help call Tony at 209-5029.
Proceeds are used to place pro-life advertisements on local television. The ads may be viewed at sarahshope.com.

Art as Healing workshop Jan. 23 at Magnificat Center
WICHITA – Kathy Gilmartin will lead a workshop on “Art as Healing” from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Magnificat Center, 3700 E. Lincoln.
Gilmartin, volunteer coordinator for the Sisters of St. Joseph Dear Neighbor Ministries, said she will teach about how art – paintings, drawings and other expressions – enhance verbal communication and can lead to resolving conflicts, solving problems, and making positive changes toward growth and healing.
