Fourth degree donates chalice to Fr. Juan Garza

Steve Bockhaus, left, and Mike Jury presented a chalice from the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Columbia Assembly of Wichita to Father Juan Garza.

The Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Columbia Assembly of Wichita recently donated a chalice to Father Juan Garza, pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Newton. Father Garza needed a chalice because the one he was using was being returned to his home parish in Mexico.
The chalice was used in a Dec. 13 memorial Mass in honor of Fourth Degree members who passed away during the previous 12 months. The chalice is engraved with the names of the deceased and after the Mass the chalice is given to the bishop to be blessed and stored at the Chancery. Once a chalice finds a home, the priest will add the deceased members to his mass intentions each day.
The Columbia Assembly has a few more chalices available. If you know of a priest, deacon, seminarian or mission in need of a chalice, please let Sister Loretta or a Knight know, and they’ll make arrangements to help a chalice find a home.
