Trinity teams place at scholar’s bowl contests
HUTCHINSON – The Trinity Catholic High School Varsity Scholars’ Bowl team placed second at the Newton Invitational tournament Dec. 10. Members of the team were John Thompson, Chris Albert, Alayna Bergkamp, Amanda Perser, and Jake May.
The Junior Varsity team placed third at the Remington Scholars’ Bowl tournament Nov. 17.  Members of the team were Michael Lindt, Jacob Simon, Kaitlyn Robinson, Luke Kicklighter, and Edward Thompson.  Coaches are Ann Pfannenstiel and Cheryl Wardlaw.

Bishop Carroll’s Blake Krier wins WSU’s Barton Scholarship
Blake Krier, a senior at Bishop Carroll, is the winner of Wichita State University’s 2010-2011 Clay Barton Scholarship in Business.
He received the $44,000 award Dec. 15 from WSU President Don Beggs and Doug Hensler, dean of the W. Frank Barton School of Business. Blake will receive $11,000 a year for four years to attend WSU as an accounting major. The Barton scholarship is the largest business scholarship in the state.
Blake is the son of Bryan and Sandra Krier of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and the sixth of eight children. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has logged many volunteer hours at Catholic Charities and other charities.

BCHS 8th grade applications due Jan. 8
WICHITA – Applications for eighth grade students interested in attending Bishop Carroll Catholic High School for the 2010-2011 school year are now being accepted.
All applicants are required to take the placement exam at Bishop Carroll on Saturday morning, Jan. 30.
Eighth graders who did not attend the Bishop Carroll Curriculum Fair should contact the Counseling Office at 729-5278 and their parish pastor for application and admission information.
Jan. 8 is the deadline for submission of the application, the $130 non-refundable application fee, and the $25 non-refundable testing fee.
