Fr. Vacca appointed to St. Jude Parish
Bishop Michael O. Jackels has announced the appointment of a pastor:
Father Daniel L. Vacca is assigned as Pastor of St. Jude Parish in Wichita, effective January 4, 2010.

Cathedral Christmas Eve Mass to be on TV
WICHITA – The Christmas Eve Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Wichita, this year will be broadcast on KWCH-TV channel 12 at 11:05 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24.
The Mass will also be streamed live at their website kwch.com for those in the diocese not within KWCH’s coverage area.
This year’s broadcast will be sponsored in part by Via Christi Health System and the Kruse Corporation.

Young Catholics New Year’s Eve party in Wichita’s Old Town
Young Catholics of Wichita is hosting a New Year’s Eve Bash from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. for those 21 to 39.
The NYE Bash will be held at the City Arts Building 334 N. Mead in Old Town.
The cost is $10 per person in advance. Men are asked to bring a beverage. Women are asked to bring an appetizer. Dress is semi- to formal. For reservations call (316) 650-0411 or 304-3103.

Next Advance Dec. 18
The next print edition of the Catholic Advance will be delivered on Friday, Dec. 18, to most of the diocese. The next electronic Advance will be emailed Friday, Dec. 11.

CSJs hosting Advent Sunday vespers
The faithful are invited to pray vespers with the Sisters of St. Joseph at 5 p.m. on the Sundays of Advent in Resurrection Chapel at their Wichita Center, 3700 E. Lincoln.
The Sisters are also hosting a day of Advent Solitude on Sunday, Dec. 13, at the Wichita Center. The quiet day of pondering God’s words will begin with Mass at 9 a.m. in Resurrection Chapel.
Afterward participants will join the sisters for brunch in silence, gather in the chapel for a brief presentation by Sister Pam Young and spend time in prayer and reflection over the Scripture readings of the day. They will gather again for a closing prayer and join the sisters for dinner at 4 p.m. and vespers at 5.
The fee for the day, including meals, is $25.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul hosting orientation Jan. 9
WICHITA – The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is growing in the Diocese of Wichita. Those who believe they are called to serve the poor through spirituality, friendship and service are asked to attend a meeting next month.
A Society orientation will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 9, at St. Anne Parish, 2801 S. Seneca St., beginning with a Mass. Breakfast, and lunch will be served. All materials will be provided.
Reservations are required for the orientation. For reservations call Council Secretary Debi Rohr at (316) 773-4556.

A reception will be held at 1 p.m. at St. Anne’s Setter Hall after the orientation. All are welcome to attend to honor our Vincentians, past, present and future with special recognition to Vincentians with 10 or more years of service.

BCCHS 8th grade applications due Jan. 8
WICHITA – Applications for eighth grade students interested in attending Bishop Carroll Catholic High School for the 2010-2011 school year are now being accepted.
All applicants are required to take the placement exam at Bishop Carroll on Saturday morning, Jan. 30.
Eighth graders who did not attend the Bishop Carroll Curriculum Fair should contact the Counseling Office at 729-5278 and their parish pastor for application and admission information.
Jan. 8 is the deadline for submission of the application, the $130 non-refundable application fee, and the $25 non-refundable testing fee.

Romance Night Feb. 13
The next Romance Night, an annual event sponsored by the diocesan Family Life Office, will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Church of the Resurrection, Wichita.
Additional details will be announced.

Cancer support meeting Jan. 7
The next Take My Hand Cancer Support Meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School library, Wichita.
There will be no meeting in December.
