Kansas Knights of Columbus ‘Rose Run’ honors life and Our Lady of Guadalupe

Three Silver Roses are traveling from Canada to Mexico City to honor life and Our Lady of Guadalupe.Knights of Columbus councils across the four dioceses of the state will participate in the Silver Rose Program, a North American effort paying tribute to Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas, from Oct. 18 through Nov. 8.
This past May, three Silver Roses left Ontario, Canada, and have been traversing the United States by a Western, Central, and Eastern route. In November, all three Silver Roses will be united in Laredo, Texas, to travel over the international Bridge and be delivered to the Knights from Monterey, Mexico.
The rose is a symbol of the unity among peoples in the Americas. It is also a symbol of the K. of C.’s commitment to the pro-life cause. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patroness of the pro-life movement. The roses’ final destination is the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dec. 12.
Kansas Knights will carry their Silver Rose as they run and walk a relay throughout the state’s four dioceses with 28 stops over 22 days during which a Mass or a prayer service is scheduled.
“Through the Silver Rose Program the Kansas Knights show support for the Church and its bishops and priests as we pray for the continued strength to do so in these troubled times,” stated Francis Drouhard, state deputy.
“The Silver Rose also symbolizes our commitment to restoring respect for the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death. As we think in terms of ‘One Life, One Rose,’ it is most appropriate that we turn to Our Lady of Guadalupe who made known her will through Juan Diego and the miracle of roses.”
