WICHITA – Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School presented Laurel Awards to two volunteers who were instrumental in the recent push to fully fund the school’s new athletic complex. The awards were given to Pete Meitzner and Mike Wescott at the Sept. 11 varsity football game by KMC School Council chair Kim Breitenbach and KMC president, Mike Burrus.
Pete Meitzner is a KMC alum, from the class of 1973. His wife, Suzi, is also a KMC alum; they are members of St. Thomas Aquinas parish and have two children. Erich is a freshman at KMC this year, and Natalie will join her older brother next year.
Pete has served as the chair of the KMC Major Gifts Council since its inception almost four years ago. He has provided solid leadership and encouragement throughout the years. Pete has given generously of his time for the benefit of Kapaun Mt. Carmel, and was a huge key in the successful completion of the recent fundraising efforts.
Mike Wescott and his wife, Therese (a KMC alum) have six children, all of whom graduated from or currently attend Kapaun Mt. Carmel. They are members of Magdalen parish.
Mike spent 3 1/2 years as KMC’s director of Development until being promoted to the Chancery Office as the director of Development and Planned Giving for the diocese five years ago. He has remained a very active KMC parent and has served as an invaluable resource in providing advice and in helping to form strategy for KMC’s development efforts.
Along with Pete Meitzner, he was an active driver of the efforts to finish the fundraising for KMC’s Phase 3 project as the steady force behind the scenes, making sure that everyone stayed on track and had the latest information available with which to approach potential donors. His sage advice and steadying influence were keys to the success of those efforts.
